2014 Southern National - Blenheim Palace

The Southern National Rally enjoyed the hospitality of the Duke and Duchess of Marlborough at Blenheim Palace on 10 August. Throughout the summer we all thought we were up for a fabulous weekend and show ….. and then the weather forecast started to cool down and the promise of hurricane Bertha heading for the UK made the prospect distinctly wet. With 68 cars booked in advance the die hards of the Rover P6 Club turned to face the rain and headed into Oxfordshire. Fifty four cars braved the elements and parked up in the rally field with just the occasional shower. Then the heavens opened to a torrential downpour, thunder and lightening. Many huddled under the gazebo and others in their car. But 20 minutes later it subsided, the clouds cleared and we were treated to an afternoon of clear blue skies …. and some wind!

We enjoyed the company of Donna Wilson and her family in their perfect NADA, John Dorsett brought the armoured police car and new member on the day, Symonde Page with his 1964 2000 SC - or at least it was once. It now has a 5 Ltr Buick engine! An interesting project which I’m sure Si will furnish us with an article for a future issue of Driving Force.

Our sincere thanks go to Dave and Brenda Griffin for organising our Southern National Rally. Well done to all involved.
