Sad History of DOW 102KI purchased DOW Last June knowing that the last owner had the car for about 28 years and he had just spent £1600 on the engine and auto box to try and resolve bad oil leaks. When I got the car home it was self evident that that money had ben waisted as it was leaking engine oil very bad. After many weeks being in a local garage and again having the gear box removed several times the leak was found to be from the cylinder head ( leak now sorted). the car was taken on its 1st run and yes it broke down and failed to start, the car was returned to the garage and again after a couple of weeks the fault was put down to the car having the wrong coil, this being changed and a couple of short runs the car seemed to be ok. Nothing much done to the car over the winter as my daughters car was being restored at my house so without any other space apart from a regular start up and warming the car nothing was done. Early spring and about time the car was serviced, this time the car was at a different garage no issues found but on the way home and after about 12 miles the car started to stall and it would start but every time the thottle was depressed the engine cut out. the car was taken to a small local garage who I had some faith in and asked him to try and sort out the car.Over the last 6-8 weeks that he has had the car he found that the exhaust and inlet manifold gasket were leaking, he also found that the car was very week and would not tune ( carb service kit fitted)then the Dizzy vacume unit had failed. at this moment the car has finaly passed its new MOT but the garage want to hold onto the car as they are still not happy. The problem being that the Engine appears to be getting very hot with the flow and return hoses getting very hard which you would think that maybe the engine is pressurizing but there is no loss of water or steam which you would normaly get with this sort of problem. Just to add I am disabled so it is difficult to carry out work like this myself Regards John PS I will update soon |
