Can classic cars be green?

Not the colour green, but the concept. With the environment on every one’s mind these days, owning a classic car is actually one of the most environmentally friendly motoring hobbies you can do. Classic cars represent a great way of saving resources and preserving some of our motoring heritage. Forget scrappage and buying new – think restoration, tender loving care and maintaining a beautiful classic – such as the Rover P6, of course.

Classic cars such as the Rover P6 2000 & 3500 that were registered before 1973 are not liable for road tax – so that’s a few pounds a year save to start with. They can be easily converted to take unleaded fuel or LPG and most people tend to do low mileage in a classic – so you car insurance cover tends to be very cheap. If you opt for car insurance from an eco friendly insurer, all the better. These green car insurance companies are keen on insuring classic cars and they let you buy carbon offsets to make up for the carbon emissions that your driving would produce. Getting a car insurance quote from an eco friendly insurance company is just as easy as any other – and many of the car insurance comparisons sites now include quotes from green insurers.

Owning a classic car is an all-consuming hobby – you can learn to do your own car maintenance, which is still possible with normal tools, not complex electronics and computers – and you can get to know people who feel just as passionately about these fine cars. Make sure your classic is kept in a garage at night – they are sought after and can tempt even the casual car thief because of their value. This will also reduce your car insurance premiums. Make sure when you get that quote that the car insurance covers you for rallies and events – as you might end up at these practically every weekend...
