The Rover P6 remains one of the very few Classic British cars usable daily in modern driving conditions. It is also one of the most comfortable, safe and affordable.
Launched as the Rover 2000 in 1963, the car created the executive sports saloon sector now populated by cars such as the BMW 3-series. The 3500S model of 1971, with the legendary 3.5-litre V8 engine and manual gearbox, propelled performance into the Supercar territory of the day. Even by today's standard, the V8 models are fast cars.
P6 was also the last Rover to be designed and developed by an independent Rover Company, and broke new ground in styling, safety and engineering that would lead the industry for the next decade. Power assisted disc brakes on all four wheels were fitted as standard to a radical new independent suspension, designed specifically to cure rear end slide and facilitate the use of new-fangled radial ply tyres. The ride quality is amongst the best Britain produced, and engineered crumple zones and intelligent pioneering safety features put the P6 leagues ahead of the competition. Despite this, with all of the body panels bolted onto a separate 'base unit', the cars are surprisingly easy to work on, and spares available is excellent. Production continued until 1977 by which time a remarkable 327,000 cars had been produced. Of these, only around 4,000 survive in the UK today, with about half roadworthy.
The Rover P6 Club is dedicated to supporting the owners of this exceptional and ground-breaking car in using, enjoying and maintaining their vehicles.
The Club is the only club supporting the P6 that is governed by its Members through a Committee elected by the membership. All profits are ploughed back into the Club to help promote the car's future and the members' enjoyment of their cars and its history.
Driving Force - our full colour 24-page A4 glossy magazine - is published 6 times annually, and we have a broad range of quality regalia items on offer. A technical team of highly experienced members are on hand to offer free advice and assistance to club members, and a recent copyright agreement with the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust means that we are now able to reproduce digital copies of the original Rover workshop manuals and parts catalogues for club members at a fraction of the price of a printed copy.
